Ok. It’s late.

It’s Friday and my mind has been swirling, because truthfully, some things make no damn sense.

This post might seem incendiary to some, but it’s born from a genuine curiosity about our culture and what words have power and what words do not. And how no matter the word that they are at it’s core a series of guttural sound; akin to a mouth fart. ????

Here’s the question..

What is it about the word Fuck that causes such a stir?

Seriously. I want to know.

It’s causes such a distinct ‘parting of the sea’ in our culture.

Some don’t care. Some lose their minds over the word.

And frankly,

I don’t know why.

It’s four letters.

Combined they make sounds that form a word. And an ugly sounding word at that.

If was to travel to a foreign land and yell the word at the top of my lungs it would have NO GRIP OR JUDGEMENT based on what the word sounds like.

Consider that.

In Brazil, Fuck isn’t anything. They have their own version of the word that causes a rift. But the english ‘fuck’ doesn’t do much in other lands.
In the states, most people are okay with the essence of the F-word.

They understand it’s significance.

But the sound of it in their ears? When you say or write it?

90% OF PEOPLE LOSE THEIR FUCKING MINDS!

(See what I did there? hehe..).

It’s just a word!!

When I was a kid, I remember listening to the Van Halen album For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge. It’s acronym was FUCK. I asked my mother about it and she told me that way back when at the time things were more conservative when someone had fornicated with someone that they weren’t married to they called that unlawful carnal knowledge.

They’d literally kill you for it.

When they’d execute you, For Unlawful Carnal Knowledge became a ‘thing’ and was placed above the guillotine written as FUCK when someone was executed for breaking this ‘sacred’ law.

How nuts is it that a few specific syllables have such an impact in society?

Which leads me to my question..

How do we get so wound up over syllables? My ass could fart a similar sounding word, but when it comes from my mouth and sounds a certain way it’s offensive?

I.

Just.

Don’t.

Get.

It.

Seriously, why do we care?

I’m all ears.

Tell me what’s up. PLEASE tell me what’s up.
